  Nov. 18, 2008 (Backbone Campaign) -- Dear Friends, The potential of the next administration will in large part depend on the capacity of the Cabinet. Without direct access to the Obama transition team it is difficult for grassroots desires to compete with the "Circling Sharks" of the Beltway. President-elect Obama has a very difficult task ahead. He promised us "change," but is under great pressure to reassure and appease. He also legitimately needs the advice of those with experience.

  Backbone Campaign has been compiling information on progressive policy leaders for the last four years. Below are some of the names from our Progressive Cabinet Roster that we think* would do a great job in an Obama Cabinet or advising Obama in shaping his administration. Many of these names are not appearing in the press or on the surveys on the New York Times or Democracy for America sites. With your help we can change that.

  I especially ask you to use every means at your disposal to promote an especially important voice for change, Chuck Spinney. If Chuck could get President-elect Obama's ear, it might make all the difference in whether we will get "change we can believe in" and so desperately need - or whether we are bankrupted by a broken Military-industrial-Congressional complex and our US empire project.
